Ecclesiastes 6:4

For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness.

A life pictured here arrives attended by emptiness and goes out attended by gloom, with its very name left veiled in gloom. Its beginning is marked by worthlessness and its ending by obscurity, so that no lasting brightness or remembrance remains to it. This belongs to the larger lesson of the book that human living and human striving are hollow when separated from God.
