Ecclesiastes 6:8

For what hath the wise more than the fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living?

Ecclesiastes 6:8 belongs to a book whose burden is the vanity of human life when it is lived apart from God. Its setting is a sustained survey of human pursuits, showing their uselessness to give lasting profit or satisfaction without Him. The verse is therefore to be read as part of that wider judgment that earthly life and endeavor are vain and empty apart from God.
