Ecclesiastes 7:22

For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.

Thine own heart or conscience knows that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others, having spoken critically, unkindly, and harshly about them. Because of that shared fault, every curse or hurtful remark spoken against oneself is not to be taken to heart or dwelt upon. The other person is only expressing an opinion just as one expresses one's own.

That awareness calls for patience and restraint rather than indignation when criticized. It calls also for restraint in correcting others rather than speaking harshly whenever their faults irritate.

The verse teaches not to be quick to condemn others for their faults but to show mercy by remembering one's own similar wrongs. A parent should excuse a child's forgetful lapse rather than turn it into harsh punishment and a quarrel. One should not punish harshly or criticize another for a mistake one has made oneself.
