Ecclesiastes 7:26

And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

Ecclesiastes belongs with the morning reading and sets forth the emptiness of human life and the uselessness of human pursuits apart from God. It reflects Solomon's own unsatisfying experience of those pursuits. That experience included the influence of his many wives in turning his heart away.

The woman found more bitter than death is not one particular individual but a woman standing for a class. Her snaring character is set out more fully in Proverbs 7. The nearby phrase about counting one by one means laying one thing alongside another, that is, comparing things. The related finding in verse 28 about finding few upright women concerns the class of women Solomon met while seeking pleasure, among whom he found fewer women of character and worth than men.
