Ecclesiastes 8:10

And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

The wicked are laid in the grave after having come and gone from the place of the holy, frequenting it while continuing in sin. After burial they are forgotten in the very city where they committed their wicked deeds. That burial followed by forgetfulness proves that wickedness itself is vanity, ending in oblivion rather than lasting honor. The grave to which they go is a sleep that comes before the judgment, not the final reckoning itself. Those who die without Christ therefore face a fearful doom as the lost when they awake to judgment, and sinners must now awaken from sin and turn to Christ before death overtakes them.
