Solomon Commands from His Throne of Lionsby emmanuel_higgins

Ecclesiastes 8:5

Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man’s heart discerneth both time and judgment.

The keeper of the commandment will feel no evil thing and will be shielded from evil. That shielding is God's preservation of those who keep His word and His deliverance of the godly out of temptation. Keeping the commandments and teaching others to keep them is the safe way, and the only safe way, over against the teaching that keeping them is unnecessary.

A wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment, which is the right and the appointed time and judgment. This discernment comes through keeping God's commandments, so it is the obedient wise who understand. The wise discern the appointed time and judgment because for every purpose and for every work there is a judgment, with every secret thing whether good or evil brought under God's judgment.

The appointed day in which God will judge the world will be made known to those who keep the commandment, so they will have no cause for fear in that day. In particular, the obedient wise understand and discern the time of the investigative judgment. Those who keep the commandment, hear Christ's word and believe on Him that sent Him, have everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation but have passed from death unto life.

The same discernment belongs to the judgment in which the saints are joined with Christ after the resurrection of the just. The wise use it to understand that God's prophecies concerning His people will be fulfilled in His own time and way, and prophecy both molds their character and enables them to recognize the time of their final deliverance, so that the wise who are to shine will understand the time. Its wisdom also enables recognition from the signs that the Lord's coming and God's kingdom are near, confirming the faithful servant's expectation and condemning the evil servant's claim that the Lord delays His coming. Keeping God's commandments, including the fourth commandment, is the foundation of practical religion and of duty to God and to fellow men.
