Paul Kneels in Prayer, Chained to a Roman Guardby emmanuel_higgins

Ephesians 6:20

For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Paul is an ambassador for the gospel even while held in bonds as a prisoner. His imprisonment is imprisonment for Christ, yet his ambassadorship continues within it. Though bound, he asks for help to speak boldly as he ought to speak. The boldness sought is for making known the message and mystery of the gospel despite his chains.

Words he wrote while in bonds commanded greater attention and respect than the words he spoke when personally present with the churches. The verse belongs to a chapter to be read in connection with the daily warfare, which is not mortal combat. It calls ministers to make the gospel known with courage and to remain watchful against Satan's spiritual schemes.
