Esther 1:21

And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan:

The saying pleased the king and his princes, and the king acted according to the word of Memucan, approving his proposal and carrying out his counsel. That counsel was both given and accepted while those deciding were under the influence of wine, which clouded their judgment and kept them from sound advice. Acting on it led to a decree concerning Vashti and authority in the household, a result that was unfavorable to Vashti and unjust. Decisions of this kind, made under the influence of wine, did not glorify God. Yet God overruled the consequences to bring Esther to the Medo-Persian throne and to accomplish His purposes for Israel.
