Mordecai Guides Esther into the King's PalaceBible World
2:10Esther 2:10
Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.
Esther was Hadassah, the daughter of Mordecai's uncle, whom Mordecai, the Jew in the palace at Shushan, took for his own daughter when her father and mother were dead. After she was brought into the king's house at Shushan into the custody of Hegai the keeper of the women, she kept her people and her kindred hidden. She did this in obedience to Mordecai's charge that she should not reveal them.
She continued to keep them hidden and to do the commandment of Mordecai with the same obedience she had shown when she was brought up by him. That concealment held even while she pleased Hegai and obtained kindness from him, and was speedily given her things for purification with her portion and seven maidens out of the king's house, and was advanced with her maids to the best place of the house of the women. All the while Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house to know how Esther was doing and what would become of her.
The concealment still continued even as she obtained favor in the sight of all who looked upon her, and the king loved her above all the women, set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.
