Esther 2:12

Now when every maid’s turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)

The twelve months of purification fixed the timing, and when Esther's turn arrived she was brought in to King Ahasuerus. At that presentation she asked for nothing beyond what Hegai, the king's chamberlain and keeper of the women, directed. She won favor in the eyes of everyone who saw her.

The king loved her above all the other women and extended to her grace and favor beyond all the virgins, placing the royal crown on her head and making her queen in Vashti's place. He then held a great feast for his princes and servants in her honor, granted a release to the provinces, and distributed gifts in keeping with his royal bounty. Even then Esther had not disclosed her people or her kindred, in obedience to Mordecai's charge, continuing to follow his command as she had done while under his upbringing.
