Mordecai Cares for Esther and Prepares Her for the PalaceBible World

Esther 2:6

Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.

Mordecai was a Jew living in Shushan the palace who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He brought up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, who had neither father nor mother and was fair and beautiful, taking her for his own daughter when her father and mother were dead. When the king's commandment was heard and many maidens were gathered together to Shushan the palace to the custody of Hegai keeper of the women, Esther was also brought to the king's house to Hegai's custody.

She pleased him and obtained kindness of him, and he speedily gave her things for purification with what belonged to her, and seven chosen maidens out of the king's house, preferring her and her maids to the best place of the house of the women. Esther had not showed her people nor her kindred because Mordecai had charged her not to show it. And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house to know how Esther did and what should become of her.
