Haman Receives the King's Ringby CBPepper

Esther 3:11

And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.

In the verse King Ahasuerus gives Haman control over the Jews and their silver, to do with both as he sees fit, handing him authority over the people and their wealth and allowing him to act against them as he wished. The grant was obtained through false pretenses and misrepresentation, as part of a plot to destroy God's people. The king was unaware that in so authorizing Haman he was enabling a decree that would bring suffering and oppression upon a people who served the Lord.

The decree behind the grant grew out of Haman's malice toward Mordecai, who refused to give a man the reverence belonging to God alone and would not give him the reverence due only to God. Through this scheme by wicked men, Satan was working to destroy God's people who preserved the knowledge of the true God, using the planned destruction as his means against them. Yet the enemy's purpose was thwarted and the hostile schemes were defeated under God's protection.

The event foreshadows a last-days decree against God's people, serving as an example of a future decree whose test will concern Sabbath observance. In that final crisis Satan will work through religious powers to condemn and kill those who refuse to worship the false Sabbath. The verse teaches that the Lord's subjects must remain true to Him whatever the cost. As Haman's plot was defeated through God's protection, so Satan's devices can be defeated when God's people trust Him and rely on His power.
