Esther 3:4
Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew. Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
Mordecai refused to bow to Haman and do him honor because he was a Jew who would not give to a human being the reverence that belongs to God alone. The king's servants spoke to him daily without changing him, and then they told Haman what he had said, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand and whether his conduct would be allowed to be tolerated. That disclosure set Haman's hostility in motion, for his malice at Mordecai's stand grew into a plot that became a decree against the Jews.
The decree against the Jews was secured through false pretenses and misrepresentation. The plot against God's people was ultimately defeated. The episode shows that opposition to God's faithful people can arise from their refusal to compromise their allegiance to Him. Mordecai's faithfulness is a pattern for Sabbath keepers, whose loyalty to God's law rebukes those who reject it and can provoke efforts to remove them.
