Esther 6:12

And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.

Mordecai went back to his place at the king's gate after receiving the honor, while Haman hastened to his own house mourning with his head covered in grief and humiliation. This sudden reversal came before Esther's banquet, at the moment when Haman's wife and his counselors discerned that his fall before Mordecai the Jew had begun. The chapter in which it stands shows that human rulers kept records of remembrance.

The verse belongs to Haman's attempt in the reign of Ahasuerus under Medo-Persian rule to destroy all the Jewish people, the people of God. In that account his plot was frustrated and the people of God were preserved. Through Haman Satan sought to destroy the woman through whom the Man Child was to come, but God frustrated his purpose. Medo-Persia was the second head of the beast, the abnormal satanic system of church-state government which Satan perverted to his own ends.
