Exodus 11:2
Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold. Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.
The command was given as part of the divine announcement that a single further judgment upon Pharaoh and Egypt would settle the contest, after which Pharaoh would drive Israel out completely. It was not an isolated instruction about valuables but was bound to that final plague warning and to the promised decisive expulsion. Within that announcement the Lord directed that every Israelite man and every Israelite woman should make request of a neighbor for objects of silver and objects of gold.
Moses carried this as yet another message from God to the defiant monarch, entering Pharaoh's presence with firm step and standing without fear before him to declare the word of the Lord. He did so although he had been barred from seeing Pharaoh's face again under threat of death. His bold entrance and fearless stand therefore belonged to the delivery of this very word about the coming plague, the thrusting out, and the asking for silver and gold.
