Exodus 16:33
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
This command stands within the account of miraculous divine care in which bread was given to Israel in the wilderness by a miracle of God. The surrounding provision shows that the education of Israel embraced all habits of life, placing everything concerning their well-being under divine care and within divine law, so that even in supplying food God sought their highest good. The manna fed to them in the wilderness was of a nature to promote physical, mental, and moral strength, so that notwithstanding the hardships of wilderness life there was not a feeble one in all their tribes. The provision shows that God could supply what His people needed, yet He made their moral discipline depend on their cooperation with Him, with each person to contribute according to ability. The pot of manna ordered to be laid up is represented in heaven by the golden pot kept inside the ark in the heavenly Most Holy Place, alongside Aaron's rod and the stone tablets bearing the Ten Commandments.
