Exodus 18:4
And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh: And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:
The name given in the verse is that of Moses' other son, Eliezer, and the explanation attached to it is a memorial that the God of his father was his help and delivered him from Pharaoh's sword. It belongs to the reunion of Moses in the wilderness with his wife and his two sons after he had led Israel out of Egypt. On the way to Egypt Moses had sent his wife back to Midian in order to spare her the pain of witnessing the judgments that were to fall upon the Egyptians.
His wife Zipporah was a Midianite and thus a descendant of Abraham, and though not an Israelite she worshiped the true God. She was timid and retiring in disposition, gentle and affectionate, greatly distressed by suffering, and somewhat darker in complexion than the Hebrews. After rejoining Moses she saw that his burdens were wearing away his strength and made her fears known to Jethro, who then suggested measures for his relief. Miriam regarded Zipporah's influence as the cause of Moses no longer taking herself and Aaron into his counsels.
At this reunion Moses told Jethro how God had dealt with Israel, and Jethro rejoiced and blessed the Lord. He then joined Moses and the elders in offering sacrifice and sharing a feast to commemorate God's mercy. Jethro's part in this account shows him singled out from the Gentile world to reveal the principles of heaven, demonstrating that God appointed witnesses and gave evidence that His agencies were sent by heaven.
