Exodus 21:31

Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.

The judgments and laws in Exodus 19-24 were given by God to Moses on the mount and written in a book, and they were given by Christ Jesus Himself who gave the directions on Mount Sinai and afterward spoke in human flesh. They were given to guard against doing injustice and to guide dealings with one another, showing impartial care for His people and the high standard of His requirements. They were to be strictly obeyed, and they are to be studied and presented before the people because they are needed now just as verily as by the children of Israel in the days of Moses.

When a known dangerous ox gores a son or a daughter the same judgment is to be done, making the owner answerable for knowingly letting the danger remain loose. That judgment belongs with the fixing of thirty pieces of silver, about 3 pounds 10 shillings, as the price of a slave, and for that slave's price Judas, having fostered avarice until it became the ruling motive of his life, sold his Lord and betrayed Him with a kiss in Gethsemane.

The same principle applies to liquor sellers, who knowingly supply what can destroy reason and lead to violence and death.
