Exodus 21:35

And if one man’s ox hurt another’s, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.

The provision for dividing the value when one man's ox kills another's belongs to the instruction God gave through Moses. That instruction has not lost its force but remains relevant. Its purpose is to guard against injustice and to guide people in fair dealing with one another.
