Exodus 22:30

Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.

The instruction stands as part of what was given to Moses in the mount, belonging to Exodus 19-24 and specifically among the statutes and judgments recorded in Exodus 21-23, laws that were written in a book. It was spoken on Mount Sinai by Jesus Christ Himself. He who gave it there is the same Teacher who afterward spoke in human flesh.

It is not from a Christless dispensation. It is not of a lower order than the statutes given in this age, for the Lord is impartial in His ways and exalted in all His requirements.

It shows the Lord guarding the interests of His people. As one of the laws written in a book, it guards against doing injustice and guides dealings with one another, with special directions concerning the poor.

It is to be strictly obeyed. It is to be studied and presented before the people, being needed now just as verily as by the children of Israel in the days of Moses, that men must obey. It calls for contention to cease and for loving as brethren with softened and subdued hearts.
