Exodus 22:7

If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

Exodus 22:7 belongs to the instruction given to Moses in the mount in Exodus 19-24, part of the statutes and judgments written in a book along with the other laws that men should obey. It was given by Christ Jesus Himself on Mount Sinai, the same Teacher who has spoken in human flesh. It shows God's impartial care for His people, including special concern for the poor.

Together with the other laws written in the book, it guards against doing injustice and guides dealing one with another, to end all contention and to love as brethren with softened and subdued hearts. It is not of a lower order than the requirements given in this age but is needed now just as verily as by the children of Israel in the days of Moses. It is to be strictly obeyed and to be studied and presented before the people in jots and tittles.
