Exodus 23:7

Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.

The instruction belongs to what was given to Moses in the mount in Exodus 19-24, the statutes and judgments given to Israel by Christ Jesus Himself. It commands keeping far from a false matter, which warns against supporting a false cause or perverting justice and thereby guards against doing injustice. It forbids condemning an innocent and righteous person to death. It declares that God will not acquit or justify the wicked.

It is an exalted requirement that guards the interests of God's people and guides how people deal with one another. It is to be strictly obeyed, studied, gathered, taught, practiced and presented before the people, needed now just as verily as by the children of Israel in the days of Moses. Obedience to its principles is the condition for receiving God's promised reward and communion with Him. It calls for all contention to cease, for loving as brethren, and for the heart to be softened and subdued.
