Table of Showbread in the TabernacleBible World

Exodus 25:24

And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about.

It is part of the specifications Christ gave to Moses for building the tabernacle. It describes the showbread table as covered or overlaid with pure gold and finished with a crown of gold round about its edge, meaning an ornamental crown or rim or raised molding. By a different identification, it describes the ark as overlaid with pure gold and finished with a gold crown around its top. The table was a furnishing that stood in the holy place, the first apartment of the sanctuary.

Within the holy place the table stood on the north side. Twelve loaves were placed on the table by the priests each Sabbath, and the loaves removed from the table were holy and were eaten by the priests. The earthly table has its true form in heaven, where the table with the shewbread upon it stands in the first apartment, and all the furniture there looks like purest gold and reflects the image of the one who enters to minister. The heavenly ark is seen with a beautiful crown-like border, and the commandments within it stand for God's law, before which angels look with interest.

The verse was repeated chapter after chapter during tentmaking work done quickly and skillfully by hand, in a way that preached the gospel by voice and by intelligent labor and educated believers in unity. It teaches that supreme honor is to be given to God, and that the skill, genius, and wisdom put into diligent and thorough craftsmanship are given by God to be used for His glory.
