Table of Showbread in the TabernacleBible World

Exodus 25:29

And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal: of pure gold shalt thou make them.

The verse belongs to the specifications for building the tabernacle and for Israel's service that Christ gave to Moses on Mount Sinai during his forty days and nights in the mount. It directs that the dishes and spoons and covers and bowls belonging to the table of showbread be made of pure gold. That table stood in the holy place, on the north side of the wilderness sanctuary. Each Sabbath the priests set out twelve loaves upon it in two piles sprinkled with frankincense, and the loaves removed from it were holy and were eaten by the priests.

The sacred apartments had no windows and were lighted continually by the golden candlestick, whose light shone on the gold-plated walls and on the table of showbread and the other furnishings and made the sanctuary magnificent. The heavenly sanctuary contains the corresponding table of showbread in its first apartment, together with the candlestick with seven lamps and the altar of incense with its censer. All the furniture of that apartment, including the vessels belonging to the table, appears as purest gold and reflects the image of the one who enters there.

Paul repeated these building specifications chapter after chapter to his fellow workers while working quickly and skillfully with his hands at tentmaking with Aquila, for his own benefit and theirs. The verse teaches that supreme honor is to be given to God, that the skill and genius and wisdom brought into the tabernacle work were given by God to be used for His glory, and it gives an example of diligence and thoroughness in joining mechanical labor with preaching the gospel.
