Exodus 25:5

And rams’ skins dyed red, and badgers’ skins, and shittim wood,

Exodus 25:5 is one of the specifications given to Moses for building the tabernacle. Those specifications were the detailed instructions for Israel's service given on the mount during forty days and nights, including the pattern of the sanctuary and the ark.

The verse lists part of the offering to be taken to make a sanctuary so that God might dwell among the people, an offering that included gold and silver and brass and other materials, including ram skins dyed red, badger skins, and shittim wood. That offering was to be taken only from every one who gives willingly with the heart, from every one whose heart stirred him up and whose spirit made him willing for the work of the tabernacle. The command came soon after leaving Egypt, when the people were newly freed yet still only a step from freedom back to slavery and vulnerable to returning to slavery, with scanty means of their own and small tents.

God's house was to be built first according to the design given, as a sanctuary that could be taken from place to place so that in all the travels the knowledge of God would be made known. The people needed no urging but brought gifts in abundance, each anxious to have a part, taking ornaments and jewelry from themselves and gladly giving gold, silver, brass and ornamental work to beautify and enrich God's house. More than a million dollars was expended, until Moses had to proclaim that they had enough and the willing offerings must cease because it could not all be used.

The materials were to be provided as the best the people could give, showing that what is connected with worship is sacred and is to be kept pure, clean, and orderly. The skill and wisdom and genius brought into working these materials were given by God to be used for His glory, and supreme honor is to be given to God. While making tents with Aquila and Priscilla, the tabernacle chapters were repeated chapter after chapter to fellow workers, preaching the gospel with the hands as well as the voice to stay in touch with Christ, to instruct believers in unity, and to set an example of diligence and thoroughness in business, with the presentation joined with praise and prayer meetings as a testimony to the truth. While working quickly and skillfully with the hands at tent-making with Aquila, the specifications were related to fellow workers to educate them in diligence and thoroughness and unity, preaching the gospel with the hands as well as the voice.
