Exodus 26:12

And the remnant that remaineth of the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that remaineth, shall hang over the backside of the tabernacle.

The instruction for the hanging remnant belongs to a design for a sanctuary that could be dismantled and transported with Israel through all its travels, and at the same time was a building of remarkable splendor. Its walls were formed of upright boards overlaid heavily with the purest gold. Within, the sacred structure was divided into two rooms by a rich and beautiful curtain or veil, while another veil of like character closed the entrance to the first room. Those veils, together with the curtain that made the ceiling, combined varied colors in most beautiful order. Cherubim were embroidered into them with gold and silver thread to depict the angelic host joined to the work of the heavenly sanctuary as ministering spirits to the saints on earth.
