Exodus 26:17

Two tenons shall there be in one board, set in order one against another: thus shalt thou make for all the boards of the tabernacle.

Exodus 26:17 belongs to the specifications given by Christ to Moses for building the tabernacle, specifically the instructions for its boards. Each board was to have two tenons set in order opposite one another. The boards were to form upright walls, fitted together, heavily plated with purest gold, and standing in silver sockets.

The gold-plated surfaces of the side walls reflected the light of the candlestick. The structure was fitted together so it could be taken apart and borne with Israel on all their journeyings through the wilderness. Though portable, it was a structure of extraordinary magnificence, containing two apartments separated by a rich and beautiful veil, with a similar veil closing the entrance of the first apartment.

Its veils and ceiling curtain were of beautifully arranged colors inwrought with threads of gold and silver in cherubim. Those cherubim represented the angelic host connected with the work of the heavenly sanctuary as ministering angels to the saints on earth. The skill, wisdom, and ability employed in this work came from God and were to be used for His glory.
