Exodus 26:29

And thou shalt overlay the boards with gold, and make their rings of gold for places for the bars: and thou shalt overlay the bars with gold.

Exodus 26:29 gives part of the specifications for building the tabernacle, directing that the boards and the bars be overlaid with gold and that the rings for places for the bars be made of gold. The walls it describes were upright boards heavily plated with purest gold. Those boards stood in silver sockets. They belonged to the sanctuary built at God's command as His earthly dwelling among Israel in the wilderness.

The building was of extraordinary magnificence. Its gold reflected the light of the candlestick and the colors of the curtains, giving the sacred apartments their glorious appearance. Despite its magnificence, the building was portable, made to be taken apart and borne and carried with the Israelites in all their journeyings from place to place. The skill and wisdom used in this work were gifts from God, to be used for His glory.
