Priest in the Holy Place of the SanctuaryBible World

Exodus 26:34

And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.

The mercy seat was to be put upon the ark of the testimony in the innermost most holy place of the portable tabernacle borne with Israel in all their journeyings. That tabernacle was a structure of extraordinary magnificence, its walls upright boards heavily plated with purest gold, and it was composed of two apartments separated by a rich and beautiful curtain or veil, with a similar veil closing the entrance to the first apartment. The veils, with the curtain forming the ceiling, were of a variety of colors most beautifully arranged, and inwrought with threads of gold and silver were cherubim to represent the angelic host connected with the work of the heavenly sanctuary as ministering angels to the saints upon the earth.

This direction belongs to the instructions for building the tabernacle which Paul repeated to his fellow tentmakers. The specifications of the chapter teach that the skill and wisdom and ability exercised in the sacred work came from God and were to be used for His glory. The ark may abide in that most holy place, but its abiding there is linked with having a heart right with God and acting on the light given, and obtaining the reward requires dying to self.
