Exodus 30:25
And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.
The oil was a specially prepared, holy substance set apart exclusively for sacred service in the tabernacle. The distinction between sacred and common in connection with it was not temporary, but was to be observed by God's people throughout their generations. No oil of the same composition was to be made for ordinary use, nor was the holy oil itself to be applied to any unauthorized person. To misuse it in either of those ways — by counterfeiting it for common purposes or by putting it upon one not entitled to receive it — brought the penalty of being cut off from the people.
