Exodus 34:4
And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone. And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.
After he had broken the first tablets, he himself cut two tables of stone like the first to replace them. In prompt, exact obedience to the Lord's command, he rose up early in the morning and went up alone to the top and summit of Mount Sinai, carrying the two tables in his hand. He so presented himself on the top of the mount to meet God and receive the law again.
He remained in the mount forty days and nights, miraculously sustained as at the first. No man was permitted to go up with him, and none was allowed to approach the mount during his absence. On the mountain God came down in the cloud and met with him in renewed communion, proclaiming His name and character. God again wrote upon the prepared tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments, thus renewing the covenant with Israel.
The verse teaches entire consecration through prompt obedience as the way professing Christians must act like Christians to maintain their connection with God. God talks with man and comes very near to those who will be moved by His Spirit in this way. It calls each person to prove Him by the same full surrender.
