Exodus 40:25

And he lighted the lamps before the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.

Moses lighted the lamps before the Lord in obedience to what the Lord had commanded him. The lighting belonged to the ordered arrangements of the tabernacle service, not to casual or self-devised worship. That divinely appointed order was intended to impress Israel with God's majesty and holiness. It also impressed upon them the purity required of those who serve Him.

The order and harmony of Israel's worship further served to reveal God's character to the surrounding nations.
