And he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the LORD commanded Moses. The altar for burnt offering stood at the entrance door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation. Its position at the doorway made it the meeting place at the threshold of the sanctuary. Upon that altar the burnt offering and the meat offering were presented as the Lord had commanded Moses.
The placing of the altar and the offering of those sacrifices upon it belonged to the ordered arrangements of the tabernacle. Those arrangements instructed Israel concerning the majesty and holiness of God and the purity He requires in those who serve Him. Those same arrangements set forth the character of God before the nations round about.
