Exodus 6:4

God had established his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the ancestors and forefathers of Israel. That covenant was a promise to give them and their descendants the land of Canaan. Canaan was the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they had lived as strangers and pilgrims.
The word to Moses was assurance that this covenant would be fulfilled and faithfully carried out, and through Moses that assurance was given to Israel.
