Exodus 9:34
And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
When the rain and the hail and the thunders ceased, Pharaoh sinned yet more and hardened his heart, returning to his perversity rather than continuing in repentance. He hardened his heart together with his servants, sharing in that renewed resistance. Before this hardening he had acknowledged his sin with confession and promises and a plea for relief while afflicted by the plagues, his words forced from him by terror and anguish. That confession was made to escape punishment, not from genuine repentance, for there was no changed purpose and no lasting change of heart. The hail plague itself showed that the earth and its forces are under the command of the God of the Hebrews.
