Ezekiel 1:27
And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
The fiery amber brightness surrounds the humanlike figure above the throne in the vision by the river Chebar. The wheels and living creatures, the wheels within wheels, and the appearances connected with them are intricate and unexplainable, and to the finite eye they look like confusion or a mass of confusion. Amid the wheels and machinery a hand of infinite wisdom is seen at work directing it, bringing perfect order out of the confusion. Every wheel works in its right and true place in perfect harmony with the others and with every part of the grand center and of the machinery.
Heaven is closely connected with events on earth, and the God of Israel is enthroned above earthly rulers. The world is not without a ruler, for the Lord directs events and coming events and holds the destiny of nations and the concerns of His church in His charge. He cares for those who are loyal to Him and brings good to His faithful people. God can direct complex work through many agencies without leaving its order or control to human beings.
The vision holds a deep and important lesson for every one of God's workmen and should be carefully studied with humility and earnest prayer. Those handling God's interests are to depend on the Holy Spirit to guide them as faithful shepherds, as faithful stewards of the faith who look to and trust God. In a crisis they are to act without waiting for voice and dictation from Battle Creek, standing each at his post of duty with God as instructor in entire dependence and trust. They are to reject desire for human power and control and dictation, leaving to the great I AM the management of things belonging to His control and letting God prepare the way for the work by living human agency.
