Winged Living Creatures With Eyed Wheels Before the ThroneBible World

Ezekiel 1:8

And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

Beside the Chebar the vision presents living creatures, the cherubim, having human hands beneath their wings on their four sides, and those heavenly beings move and direct the wheels under divine authority. The hands belong to the larger picture of wheels and living beings through which earthly events are kept under divine control.

What at first looks intricate and confusing to the finite eye reveals a hand of infinite wisdom that brings perfect order out of confusion. Every wheel is in its right place, working in perfect harmony with every other part of the machinery. Heaven is thus shown closely connected with earth, and the world is shown to have a ruler who holds coming events, the destiny of nations, and the concerns of the church in His charge. He cares for those who are loyal to Him.

God Himself directs the work while human agents serve their appointed, assigned parts. Those human agents must depend on Him rather than seek power or control for themselves. They are to do their appointed part without taking control or credit that belongs to God. The hand beneath the wings shows that divine power is what gives God's servants success, and God works with them when they put away iniquity and become pure in heart and life. The vision therefore holds a deep and important lesson for every worker and every one of God's workmen, to be studied with humility and earnest prayer together with Isaiah 6 and Ezekiel 2.
