Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.
The joined wings show living beings advancing together in a straight, coordinated course, not turning aside as they go forward. The detail belongs to the larger vision of the living creatures and the interlocking living wheels moving in exact harmony. What appears as confusion to finite eyes is brought into perfect order by a hand of infinite wisdom and power, with every part working in its proper place in full harmony with the whole and in perfect agreement with every other part.
God's work therefore moves straight forward in perfect order under that infinite wisdom. Heaven is closely connected with events on earth, the whole world is under His control, and as its ruler He cares for those loyal to Him. He holds the course of events, the destiny of nations, and the concerns of His church in His hands.
The wings are also those on each side of the cloudy chariot that will carry the redeemed upward toward the New Jerusalem. Beneath that chariot are living wheels. As the chariot rolls upward the moving wings cry holy, the wheels cry holy, and the angelic retinue cries holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, while the redeemed shout alleluia.
