Ezekiel 10:8

And there appeared in the cherubims the form of a man’s hand under their wings.

The form of a human hand appears beneath the cherubim's wings, beneath the wheels. The vision was given beside the river Chebar, among symbols of heavenly beings and wheels under God's rule. The hand is divine power sustaining and directing the heavenly beings and His prepared instruments, whose movements guide the wheels, so that every operation is carried out with perfect order and harmony.

As the hand guides the wheel-like vision, God guides the complicated course of human events and the affairs of earthly rulers by a power above them. Even amid the strife of nations and apparent confusion of events, the One enthroned above the cherubim directs earthly affairs by an overruling power. He brings perfect order out of confusion through the machinery of earth and heaven, and the living God is needed everywhere.

Divine power gives success to God's work and servants, who are instruments and not the source of their own ability or achievement. His messengers are not to depend on themselves, think the work rests on them, carry it by their own strength, or bear its burden alone. God works with His servants in this way when they put away iniquity and become pure in heart and life. God continually carries out His purposes, frustrates the plans of wicked people, and guards His people amid conflict and upheaval among nations, and they are safe in His hands. That safety holds even when rulers fall and judgment strikes His enemies. The Lord who rules in heaven watches over His people and measures each person's trials.
