Ezekiel 12:25
For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD. For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.
The declaration is that when the Lord speaks, the word He speaks will surely come to pass and will be no more prolonged or delayed indefinitely. It directly rejects the saying that the days are prolonged and every vision fails because fulfillment is far off. Vain visions and flattering divinations will give way to the fulfillment of God's word. In its original setting it warned the rebellious house of Judah that the announced judgment would be spoken and performed in their own days.
As part of the prophecies of Ezekiel 11 and 12, it must receive critical, thoughtful attention and be studied on knees before God amid the perils of the last days. Those who by a perverse spirit have laid stumbling blocks in the way of others must take them up or God will turn His face utterly from them and their associates. It comforted those disappointed when the expected time of Christ's coming passed, assuring them that God had foreseen their waiting and giving grounds for confidence that the promised event was near. It calls them to hold fast their confidence and wait patiently through disappointment and apparent delay.
Applied to the advent hope, it distinguishes God's true time, which He will make known to His saints by His voice from heaven, from false time predictions that fail. The failed visions are false predictions made after the seventh month of 1844, while God approved the 1843 and 1844 proclamations through the Holy Spirit. In the time of trouble God's voice announces the appointed time, the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivers the everlasting covenant. His words roll through the earth and are understood and heard by His living saints and people.
