Ezekiel 12:27
Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off. Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off.
The house of Israel met the vision by saying that what was seen was for many days to come and that the prophecy concerned times far off, thereby dismissing its fulfillment as distant in the future. In answer to that doubt came the assurance that the spoken words would not be delayed but would be fulfilled without further indefinite prolonging. What had been spoken would come to pass in their own days, and this rebuked their denial of prophecy.
The chapter, together with chapters 9 to 11, should receive critical, thoughtful attention and be studied on knees before God amid the perils of the last days. Those who by a perverse spirit have laid stumbling blocks in the way of others must take them up, or God will turn His face utterly from them and their associates.
Together with the following verse, this word comforted believers in the Advent disappointment after the expected time of Christ's coming passed, showing that delay did not mean the vision had failed. It gave disappointed believers courage to wait patiently and hold fast to confidence in God's word while continuing to expect the event soon. It applies to the present: the day is at hand, and the time remaining for learning, work, and character transformation is brief.
