Ezekiel 13:7
Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken? Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken?
To present as God's word a message God has not spoken is to testify to falsehood and not to truth. The test is not sincerity of feeling or boldness of assertion, but whether God has in fact spoken what is claimed in His name. When that divine speaking is absent, the claim of heavenly authority itself becomes the lie.
For this reason the verse condemns those who declare the Church to be Babylon while professing to have a message from heaven. Their error lies not only in the falseness of the charge, but in clothing it with the authority of God when He has given them no such word.
