Ezekiel 14:10
And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him; And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;
Ezekiel, who was of a priestly family, prophesied among the captive Israelites between 595 and 574, beginning and ending his work a little later than Jeremiah. His book opens after wonderful visions of divine glory had impressed God's great majesty upon him, so that having once seen God he did not fear the face of man when confronting sinners. This verse is one of his awful messages of warning and reproof directed to sinners among his own people.
Its immediate passage warns those who set up idols in their hearts and put a stumblingblock of iniquity, a cause of moral falling, before themselves. Reading it teaches the danger of that inward idolatry and the duty to search the heart and turn from it. The verse stands in the chapter that names Daniel along with Noah and Job as an example of wisdom and righteousness.
