Ezekiel 14:13

Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

In the verse Jesus speaks to Ezekiel to warn that when a land sins against Him by grievous trespass He will extend His hand over it, destroy its supply of bread, send famine on it, and remove both people and animals from it. That judgment will not be turned aside by the presence of righteous people in the land or by much knowledge that has been acquired. Even sons and daughters who dishonor God by neglecting His requirements and pursuing wrongdoing will not be spared but will experience the wrath of their offended God. Yet a remnant of sons and daughters will be left and brought out from that judgment. The conduct and actions of that remnant will bring comfort concerning the evil brought upon Jerusalem and will make known that God has not acted without cause in all He has done to it.
