Ezekiel 14:17

Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

The sword commanded to go through the land is one of God's judgments upon the land. That sword judgment cuts off both man and beast from it. In that judgment, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in the land, they could not deliver anyone else, not even son or daughter. Each one could deliver only his own soul and life by his own righteousness.

The righteousness by which a person thus delivers his own soul is the imputed righteousness of Christ. No one can save another soul, even by giving his own life for that person. Each person must stand before God and answer for himself. Life and death are set before each person, and each must choose for himself whom he will serve.
