Ezekiel Faces the Elders Who Kept Idols in Their Heartsby emmanuel_higgins

Ezekiel 14:2

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel, who belonged to the priestly family and served as God's mouthpiece among the captive Israelites in Babylonia by the river Chebar. His work lay between the years 595 and 574, beginning and closing just a little later than Jeremiah's. This coming of the word belongs to the opening twenty chapters of his book.

Before this word came, God had shown him wonderful visions of His glory to impress His great majesty upon him before his prophetic work began. Having once seen God, he would not fear the face of man in meeting sinners. The word that then came to him was one of his awful messages of warning and reproof to sinners among his own people. It stands within searching moral instruction extending to chapter 27.

That surrounding instruction warns of the danger and duty involved when an idol or stumblingblock of iniquity is set up in the heart. Much of it consists of predictions of the last days.
