That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

When they approached for counsel while clinging to those heart idols, He answered them according to their idolatry. Such an answer laid bare what truly ruled their hearts, taking them in their own heart by exposing their divided allegiance.
The same condition reaches those who profess to love God yet deny Him in their actions. The denial is shown when selfish interests are placed before serving Him and obeying Him.
