Ezekiel Holds a Charred Vine Branch Beside a Fireby emmanuel_higgins

Ezekiel 15:2

Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

Ezekiel 15:2 stands within the first twenty chapters of Ezekiel. It was spoken through Ezekiel as God's mouthpiece to the captives in Babylonia by the river Chebar, at the same time Jeremiah was prophesying in Jerusalem. It pictures the grape-vine stripped of leaves, as in winter, with slender, gaunt, dry-looking stem and rugged bark, the most unpromising of all fruit trees, having no advantage over any tree or over a branch among the trees of the forest for wood.

Its wood cannot be taken to do any work with, nor to make even a pin on which to hang a vessel, but is cast into the fire for fuel, where the fire devours both its ends and its midst is burned. That lesson of the worthless vine burned as fuel is to be repeated in the end-time harvest described in Revelation 14:18, 19.
