Ezekiel Holds a Charred Vine Branch Beside a Fireby emmanuel_higgins

Ezekiel 15:6

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

The inhabitants of Jerusalem are likened to a vine tree among the trees of the forest, which God has given to the fire for fuel. The vine is seen in its leafless season, when it looks most unpromising, with a slender, gaunt, dry-looking stem and rugged bark. Its wood is good for no woodwork, not even for making a pin on which to hang a vessel.

It is fit only to be cast into the fire for fuel, with both ends devoured and the middle burned. As such a fruitless vine, Jerusalem and its inhabitants are given over by God to judgment and destruction by fire. The lesson that such uselessness ends in burning will be repeated.
