Moreover the word of the Lord came to explain the judgment upon Zedekiah in the parable and its interpretation of Ezekiel 17:1-21. Zedekiah had been made subject to the king of Babylon and had entered into a solemn covenant before God to render loyal allegiance to him. He broke that covenant, and therefore God removed the diadem and took off the crown from him.
The throne of David was the throne of the Lord over the earthly kingdom of God. That throne was then made subject to Babylon and was overturned successively through Babylon, Medo-Persia, Grecia, and Rome. It shall be no more until He come whose right it is. Then it will be given to Jesus, who shall receive the throne of His father David and reign forever.
